Fred W. Ernst died on April 11, 1997 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 92.
Fred W. Ernst was born on October 14, 1904 in Hankinson, ND to Otto and Hedwig (Behnke) Ernst. He attended Public Schools in Minneapolis and Jewelers School in St. Paul. His life was spent in the jewelry business as a sales representative for wholesale firms from Minneapolis and Chicago. He also taught for a time at Minneapolis Vocational Trade School. On October 20, 1951 he was united in marriage to Alda Hantho in Maple Plain, MN. They lived in Minneapolis until moving to Milan, MN in 1970. While living in Milan, they wintered in Peoria, Arizona. He was a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church, Jewelers Association, and was active in Boy Scouts and choral groups. He enjoyed visiting with people, music, fishing, all sports, playing cards, reading, dancing and travel.
He is survived by his wife, Alda; one son, Rev. Duane Ernst and his wife of Burnsville, MN; three grandchildren: John, Debra and Janet; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Hans and Harry Ernst.
