Freda Weckwerth, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 90.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, December 21, 2003 at 2:00 PM at St. Johns Lutheran Church of rural Montevideo with Rev. Ronald Hobbie officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6-7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Freda Augusta (Roske) Weckwerth was born on August 4, 1913 in Tyro Township of Yellow Medicine County, MN to Fred H. and Amelia (Gollnick) Roske. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Omro near Boyd, MN and attended rural schools. On June 16, 1940 she was united in marriage to Alfred Weckwerth at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Omro. They farmed north of Montevideo until moving to a farm SW of Clarkfield in 1962. In 1969 they retired and moved to Montevideo. They served as long time custodians of St. Johns Lutheran Church near Montevideo. She was an active member of St. Johns, singing in the choir and participated in Ladies Aid. She enjoyed reading the Bible, crocheting, gardening, sewing, and keeping up on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons: Daniel Weckwerth and his wife Sandy of Montevideo and James Weckwerth and his wife Pat of Redwood Falls, MN; six grandchildren: Benay Cole and her husband Chuck of Granite Falls, MN, Jon Weckwerth and his wife Pam of Brookings, SD, Robyn Weckwerth of Minneapolis, MN, Jennifer Wattnem and her husband Matt of Atwater, MN, Jill Sulflow and her husband Adam of Montevideo, and Wendy Weckwerth of New Haven, CT; eight great- grandchildren: Cassandra, Catherine and Garrett Cole, Ethan Weckwerth, Tucker, Logan and Corbin Sulflow and Lilly Wattnem; one sister, Lydia Stoering of Courtland, MN; one sister-in-law, Elna Leppke of Montevideo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alfred in 1989; one grandson, Jay Weckwerth; one sister, Elsie Piipke; and two brothers-in-law, Elvin Stoering and Elmer Piipke.
