Gailen worked in the plumbing and heating trades.  In 1974, the family moved back to Dawson. Gailen retired after working many years at AMPI.

He hunted in his earlier years and in retirement he looked forward to helping Kevin with fieldwork in the spring and fall.

He is survived by his children: Kevin (Julie) of Dawson, MN and Shari Malecek of Montevideo; six grandchildren: Nicholas Oman, Daniel (Katie) Oman, Josinda (Sean) Oman-Hauck, Alicia Oman, Kein (Kristina) Malecek, and Keila Malecek; 8 great-grandchildren;  a sister, Mavis (Lee) Bengtson of Montevideo; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a brother Lowell Oman.
