Galen Christenson, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, January 10, 2001 at his home in Montevideo at the age of 73.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, January 13, 2001 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Warren Broughton officiating. Burial was in the St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery in Montevideo.
Galen Laverne Christenson was born on May 23, 1927 in Yellow Medicine County, MN to Martin and Alma (Kjelleberg) Christenson, He was baptized at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church near Hanley Falls, MN, confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo and attended rural schools. On May 11, 1944 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Gulden in Milbank, SD. He lived all his married life in Montevideo, where he worked for the Ford Garage for several years, was a mechanic and salesman at Ree Motors from 1949-1985, a salesman at Bittner - Ward and Wigen Motors from 1985 - 1992, and worked at the Red Owl Store from 1992 - 1998 and from 1998 had been working at County Market. He enjoyed horses, motorcycles and being with people. He was a member of the Saddle Club.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; four children: Kathy Amundson and her husband Milton of Park Rapids, MN, Mark Christenson and his wife Kathy of Montevideo, MN, Lynn Woltjer and her husband Douglas of Willmar, MN and Sara Toov and her husband Mike of Montevideo, MN; 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Charles Christenson of San Diego, CA, Roger Nelson and his wife Joyce of Willmar, MN and Jerry Christenson and his wife Jan of Columbia Heights, MN; and four sisters: Doris Zachow of Minneapolis, MN, Wanda Nicks and her husband David of Tampa, FL, Mary Lou Christenson of Minneapolis, MN and Karen Christenson of Boyd, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Marjorie Christenson; and one son, Paul Christenson, who died at birth in 1944.
