Galen Kimpling, of Montevideo, died Thursday, November 26, 2009 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo at the age of 79. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at Salem Lutheran Church. Rev. Ann Ward will officiate and interment will be at Strombeck Lutheran Cemetery of rural Montevideo. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 5 with the family present from 4-7:00 PM and prayer service at 7:00 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Galen Delbert Kimpling was born October 5, 1930 at Montevideo, MN the son of Glenn and Caroline (Uttermark) Kimpling. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, MN. Galen attended rural school in District #80. He was united in marriage with Marlene Peterson April 25, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, MN. He served in the US Army from 1953 - 1955. They made their home in Royal Oak, MI while Galen was in the service, then farmed near Maynard, MN before moving into Montevideo. Galen farmed for many years before he drove mail truck and also the city bus, which he really enjoyed because of the residents of Montevideo. While living on the farm he was a 4-H leader and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday School officer. He became member of Salem Lutheran Church when they moved to Montevideo. He enjoyed going on Sunday Drives, playing cards, hunting, roller skating, and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Marlene; six children: Delbert (and Corinne) Kimpling of Maynard, MN, Debra (and Gary) Johnson of Maplewood, MN, Darlene Kimpling of Wayzata, MN, Dean (and friend Kathy) Kimpling of Bruce, SD, David (and Brenda) Kimpling of Brookings, SD, and DeVonna (and Tom) Zeug of Walnut Grove, MN; ten grandchildren: Brian (and Ronda) Kimpling, Katie (and Jesse) Maland, Riley Johnson, Kara Johnson, Brenna Johnson, Meghan Kimpling, Mitchell Zeug, Marie Zeug, Matt Zeug, and Myles Zeug; four great-grandchildren: Becka Kimpling, Kylee Kimpling, Gabe Maland, and Piper Maland; three step-grandchildren: Charles Fulton, Jennifer Fulton, and Kristen (Michael) Erickson; one sister, Elaine (and Jerry) Schliep of Willmar, MN; a brother-in-law, Earl Schultz of Montevideo, MN; and a sister-in-law, Kathy (and Tom) Leindecker of Montevideo. MN. Preceding him in death were his parents; one grandson, Rory Johnson; a niece, Brenda Leindecker; and a sister-in-law, Lavonne Schultz.
