Gary Ashling, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 64.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, September 23, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Community Bible Church in Montevideo with Pastor Bruce Jarman officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5-7 P.M. with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Gary Lynn Ashling was born June 23, 1948 in Dawson, MN the son of Loren and Claire (Fousek) Ashling. He graduated from Dawson High School in 1967. Gary started his 14 years of service in the US Air Force in December of 1967. He was stationed in Thailand in 1972 and returned to California in 1973. He was united in marriage with Charlene Myers August 21, 1970 in San Bernardino, CA. They were blessed with three daughters: Tami, Melody, and Jennifer. He moved back to Dawson in 1981 and was a single dad for several years. He took welding classes at Canby Vocational College and graduated in 1982. Gary was united in marriage with Diane (Nygaard) Van Horn March 25, 1989 in Montevideo, MN. Joining in the marriage were Diane’s daughters: Jennifer, Molly, and Roxanne. Gary worked at Dawson Engineering, AMPI, Tebben Manufacturing, the hogbarn by Clarkfield, and at AGP until retiring in 2011. He also worked part-time for Jerry Bond Welding of Clara City. He lived in Dawson before moving to Montevideo in September of 2011.
Gary enjoyed working on his house. He liked woodworking, hunting, fishing and loved gardening. He was very competitive at whatever he was doing. He was a member of the pool league in Dawson for over 30 years. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and playing checkers and cards.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; six daughters: Tami (Brad) Henriksen of Montevideo, MN, Melody (Richard) Kloepfer of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Jennifer (Donald) Resemius of Brooklyn Park, MN, Jennifer (Lorry) Kispert of Kenyon, MN, Molly (Toby) Stranlund of Montevideo, MN, and Roxanne Van Horn of Blaine, MN and her special friend Nolan Zenker; 10 grandchildren: Matthew, Samuel, Cade, Broderic, Weston, Kendra, Amelia, Jonathan, Travis, Jesse, and one more expected grandchild; his mother, Claire Ashling of Dawson, MN; two sisters: Susie (Doug) Myers of Montevideo, MN and Cindy Ashling of Dawson, MN; a brother, Lannie (Brenda) Ashling of Dawson, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his father, Loren Ashling; a brother, Larry Ashling; and a son-in-law, Thai Montgomery.
