Gaylord Wanke died Wednesday, November 27, 2002 at the Appleton Nursing Home in Appleton at the age of 89.
Memorial services will be held Monday, December 2, 2002 at 1:30 P.M. at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. Rev. Wayne Anderson will officiate and interment will be at Kviteseid Lutheran - Milan Methodist Cemetery.
Gaylord Wanke was born December 3, 1912 at Montevideo, MN the son of Emil and Kathie (Joyce) Wanke. He grew up in Chippewa County and later worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps near Nevis. He was united in marriage with Augusta Frederick December 4, 1940 at St. John’s Moyer Church of rural Holloway. They made their home at Milan. Gaylord worked as a helping hand for area farmers and worked at the Milan Farmer’s Elevator for 30 years. He was the head usher at Kviteseid Lutheran Church for 30 years. Gaylord had been a resident of the Appleton Nursing Home the past 5 years.
He is survived by his wife, Augusta “Gussie” of Milan, MN; two daughters: Mae Jorgenson and her husband Glen of Clarkfield, MN and Marcella Augeson and her husband David of Montevideo, MN; 11 grandchildren: Gerald, Debra, Kenny, Jeff, Frank, Diane, Scott, Jeanette, Gene, Tom, and Kevin; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Katherine Angrimson of Mankato, MN and Gladys Anderson of Lincoln, NE; three brothers: James Wanke of Milan, MN, John (Betty) Wanke of Milan, MN, and Tom (Phyllis) Wanke of Appleton, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; twin brother, Gail Wanke; two sisters: Dorothy Breum and Hazel Snelling; and one great-grandson.
