Gene Leroy Larson died on March 19, 2025 at the age of 95 in Montevideo.
A celebration of life will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo on Thursday, April 24 at 11am. There will be a visitation at 10am prior to the service. The service will be followed by a luncheon, photo slide show and time to share memories with each other. A burial will follow at at Bergan Lutheran Church rural Granite Falls / Clarkfield.
Gene was born on January 17, 1930 in Clark South Dakota to Joe and Nancy Ann Larson. He was the third child of six.
He graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1948. He enlisted in the Army and was a private first class from 1952-54 and served in England and Germany. Gene was a proud veteran and a member of the VFW and American Legion. He worked for 29 years at the Montevideo public schools as a custodian and bus driver until he retired in 1992.
Gene married the love of his life, Doris Peterson, on October 1, 1955. They had six children together: Nina, Ann, Peggy, Bruce, Karen and Mary. A true family man, he thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with each and every one of them. He especially loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the newest great-great granddaughter.
Gene also spent quality time with his siblings and their families. The extended Larson family demonstrated how to be a family that supports each other and truly enjoys being together.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, sister Geraldine, brother Gary, granddaughters Sara Jo and Janna and grandson Michael.
Gene was known as a kind and welcoming person who was beloved by his family, friends and many others whose lives he touched. He leaves an amazing legacy to all those who had the privilege to be part of his life.
