Gene Shimp, 61, of Montevideo, MN died Sunday, May 26, 2002 at the Sumner Hospital in Sumner, IA.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2002 at 1:30 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo, MN.  Rev. Paul Woolverton will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.

Gene Allen Shimp was born October 4, 1940 at Montevideo, MN the son of Sherman and Ada (Dahl) Shimp.  Gene attended school in Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1958.  He worked for the Chicago Great Western Railroad for a few years before he served in the US Army from 1963-65.  After his discharge, Gene returned to his job with the railroad where he worked a total of 15 years.  Gene was united in marriage with Dianne (Bartels) Zweibohmer December 5, 1969 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA.  He farmed in rural Granite Falls, MN from 1974-94 and moved into Montevideo in 1995.  He had been employed at Jennie - O Foods the last 11 years.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne; three children: Brian Zweibohmer and his fiancé Hillary Ziebarth of Omaha, NE, Scott Zweibohmer and his wife Lisa of Dassel, MN and Debra Roder and her husband Deon of Hutchinson, MN; four grandchildren: Ashley and Dustin Roder and Tyler and Austin Zweibohmer; his mother-in-law, Helen Bartels of Sumner, IA; two brothers: Alton Shimp and his wife Carole of Burnsville, MN and Joel Shimp of Loveland, CO; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his father-in-law, Raymond.
