Genevieve Rimstad died Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson att the age of 93.
Funeral service was Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 10:30 AM at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church, rural Dawson with Pastor Kristine Isder officiating; scripture lessons were Psalm 23; Romans 6:22-23 and John 11:25-26; soloist, Dean Pearson sang “How Great Thou Art” and “The Lord’s Prayer” and organist, Karen Donner accompanied the singing of “Rock Of Ages” and “Amazing Grace”; honorary casketbearers were all of Genevieve’s Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren and the active were Steve Anderson, Gordie Lea, Wayne Dahl, David Hammer, David Winge, and Kenny Ellefson. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Visitation was from 5-7:00 PM Friday evening at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Ione Genevieve Rimstad was born June 21, 1919 in Dawson, MN the daughter of Hans and Marie (Kiefer) Nordgaarden. She was baptized and confirmed at Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson. Genevieve married Alvin Rimstad on December 8, 1940 at her parent’s home. They continued to live on the farm until 1996 when they moved to Dawson. Genevieve entered the Johnson Memorial Care Center in July of 2008.
Genevieve was an active member of Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, embroidery, crocheting and loved to garden. She kept scrapbooks of clippings from the newspapers since the 1940's. She also kept a diary for 65 years. She enjoyed participating in the Care Center activities and helped whenever she could. She loved to bake and was an excellent cook. She traveled to many tourist points in the United States including Hawaii and spent many weekends at the lake with friends.
She is survived by a son, Richard (Elaine) Rimstad of Dawson, MN; a daughter, Linda (Lowell) Barie of Rosemount, MN; four grandchildren: Jennifer (Troy) Weckwerth of Florence, AZ, Janelle (Ricky) Hamilton of San Jose, CA, Brian (Jen) Barie of Lindstrom, MN, and Brad Barie of Rosemount, MN; six great-grandchildren: Haaken and Olivia Weckworth, Xavier and Maxwell Hamilton, Brady and Kinley Barie; two sisters: Edith (Bill) Hammer and Marion Anderson; nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Alvin June 23, 2004; one brother in infancy, and one sister, Phyllis Winge.
