George A. Burns, of Milan, MN died on Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 95.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 18, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan, MN with Rev. Trevor Bailey officiating. Interment will be in the Kviteseid Lutheran Milan Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
George A. Burns was born on December 5, 1907 in Milan, MN to Dr. M.A. and Wilhelmina Burns. He grew up in Milan and graduated from Milan High School. He graduated from Carleton College in 1931 and attended graduate school at the University of Minnesota. He returned to Milan where he lived and farmed for most of his life. On September 4, 1937 he was united in marriage to Margery Jenson in Detroit Lakes, MN. He was a member of the Milan Lions Club, the Milan Methodist Church until it closed and was currently a member of First United Methodist Church in Appleton. He served as a Chippewa Co. Commissioner for 12 years in the 1950's and 1960's, and was involved in establishing the county library system and the paving of county roads. In his younger years he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by 3 children: Kathleen Kleven and her husband Stanley of Athens, GA; Michael Burns and his wife Susan of Milan, MN; and Patricia Burns and her husband Robert Roche of Atlanta, GA; 7 grandchildren: Laurel Kleven and her husband Russell Carter; Timothy and Daniel Kleven and his wife Noelle; Ryan, William, Lily and Mary Roche; a great granddaughter, Mackenzie Carter; and a long time care giver, Donna Evenson of Montevideo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margery in 1975, a brother Floyd Burns and by a sister, Mary Hegdahl.
