He was baptized and confirmed at St. Josephs Catholic Church and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1950. He attended St. Thomas College, playing baseball for them, but decided that college wasn't for him. To avoid the draft, George enlisted in the ASA, the intelligence arm of the Army. Three days prior to being shipped off to Korea, he married the love of his life, Patricia Jahn on April 9, 1953 in California. They were apart for sixteen months while he served. Upon his return, they moved back to Montevideo to raise their family and build their life together. He worked as a clothing salesman for more than fifty years and was awarded salesman of the year for the Northwest Buyers Menswear Buying Group. George was an active member of St. Josephs and was active in the VFW, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Montevideo Golf Club for a number of years. He golfed as much as he could even when his strength was limited. He loved being with the guys and being on the course. He loved music and even though he never had formal training, played four different instruments "by ear". One of George's most treasured memories was coaching the Montevideo Babe Ruth baseball teams. He loved baseball, coaching and the boys. His teams always did well and George was so proud. George lived a full life with the belief you only live once. When George learned he had small cell lung cancer three and a half years ago, he was blessed and appreciated every telephone call, e-mail and supportive words and prayers he received from friends, congregation of St. Joseph members, fellow salesmen, as well as the loyal companies for whom he worked. George believed the love of everyone kept him positive and healthy for so much longer than he expected. George is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Patricia; three children: Cynthia McDowell of Rochester, MN, Steven Frommel of Montevideo and Sarah Sitar of Costa Mesa, CA and three grandchildren: Katie, Nicholas and Sam. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Barbara Frommel.
