George Mitlyng, of rural Montevideo, died on Thursday, April 4, 1996 at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 93.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, April 8, 1996 at 11:00 AM at the Bergen Lutheran Church with Rev. David Mesner officiating. Burial was in the Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
George Jeffrey Mitlyng was born on December 28, 1902 in Camp Release Township of Lac Qui Parle Co, MN to Lars and Marie (Gunderson) Mitlyng. He attended rural schools and later attended the University of Minnesota Farm School and Dunwoody Institute. On June 16,1934 he was united in marriage to Stella Quaal. He farmed for many years before retiring from farming in 1964. He operated the Electric Motor Shop in Granite Falls for about 15 years. He was a member of the Eagles Club, Bergen Lutheran Church and the Farmers Union.
He is survived by sons - Lyndon of Boyd, MN; Ronald (and LeAnn) of Lexington, MN; and Gary of Montevideo; by daughters - Janice ( James) Zoch of Parkers Prairie, MN; Connie Mitlyng of Maple Grove, MN and Pam (Jack) Hansen of Tucson, AZ; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; by brothers - Spencer Mitlyng of Montevideo and Arnold Mitlyng of Montevideo, MN; and by sisters - Lydia Pokrass of Sun City, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Stella in 1978 by a daughter - Margaret Anderson; by brothers - Lloyd, Joel,Ernest, and Alfred; and by sisters - Gunda Paulson; Edna Frick; and Gina Mitlyng.
