George Saue

June 29, 1927 — May 18, 2014

George Saue, of Montevideo, died Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 86.

Memorial services will be held Friday, May 23, 2014 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7:00 PM at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.

George Palmer Saue was born June 29, 1927 in Chippewa County, MN the son of Oscar and Ida (Lynne) Saue.  He was baptized and confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church and attended rural school.  George joined the Navy in 1945 where he received his GED diploma.  He was called back to Active Duty in 1950 for the Korean Conflict.  He was united in marriage with Phyllis Nordby September 18, 1949 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  George was in the freight and moving business and was an agent for Murphy Freight Co. for 25 years and had a franchise with Mayflower Moving Co.  After he retired in 1990, he worked part-time at Heather Nursery and enjoyed digging in the dirt.  He was an avid bowler and sponsored a team for many years.  He loved fishing on Norway Lake and hunting wild game, including a trip to Alaska where he shot a moose and caribou.  George was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Cooties.  He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, dancing, and watching the Twins.  He worked hard, but always seemed to enjoy life along the way.   He and his wife took many trips and cruises, including Alaska and Norway and at least 50 trips to San Francisco to visit their daughter and family.  He was very proud of his Norwegian Heritage and loved to speak Norwegian.  He will be remembered for his quick wit and pleasant personality.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; a daughter, Linda (Dale) Zwiaska of Novato, CA; three grandsons: Alec (Susan), Todd, and Scott Zwiaska; a great-grandson, Colin Zwiaska; and a sister, Cora Gilbertson of Montevideo.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers: Orville Saue, Percy Saue, and Leslie Saue; and a sister, Alice Dougherty.
