George Velde, of Montevideo, died on Friday, March 4, 2005 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 95.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 7, 2005 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Kurt Hoover officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening, with the family from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
George Velde was born on December 14, 1909 on a farm near Hanley Falls, MN to Gudmund and Ella (Urdahl) Velde. He was baptized at Hanley Falls, confirmed at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church and attended rural schools. On September 24, 1940 he was united in marriage to Theola Lund at her family home near Maynard, MN. They farmed near Maynard until moving to Montevideo in 1970. He retired from farming in 1980. He was a member of Maynard Lutheran Church for a number of years, was currently a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo and was a member of the Montevideo Country Club. He liked to dance, play golf, play cards, visit, have coffee at Trailways Cafe and loved his apple pie.
He is survived by his wife, Theola; a son, David Velde and his wife Brenda of Alexandria, MN; two grandchildren: Elizabeth Krohnfeldt and her husband Brian of Alexandria, MN and Nicholas Velde and his wife Valerie of Roseville, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six bothers: Tolerius, Edgar, Merton, Conrad, Neander and Ludolph Velde.
