Gerald (Jerry) Edwin Robertson was born August 24, 1945 to Herman and Margaret (Bonner) Robertson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist church in Chokio, MN. In 1963 he graduated from Chokio Public school. He then attended the University of Minnesota, Morris where he received his teaching degree in 1967. On June 3, 1978, Jerry married Ann Louise Seiler of Montevideo at the Rosewood Methodist Church, rural Montevideo. This relationship welcomed a special daughter, Melanie. After the church closed, Jerry and Ann joined the United Methodist Church of Montevideo. Here he was very active in many activities; Chair of Staff Parish Relationship Committee, Lay Leader, Chair of the Wesley Evans Foundation, ushering at church funerals and involved in many other groups.
Jerry went on to complete his Master of Science in teaching at St Cloud University in August, 1979. He taught for 44 years in the Montevideo School district where he taught 8th grade Algebra and Math. In addition to teaching in the classroom, he was also involved in many math competitions. He enjoyed seeing kids learn and succeed, while having fun doing it. His teaching style was marked by the ability to joke around and laugh at himself when he made silly jokes. He was known by many of his students as “G Rob”. He used his longevity as a way of connecting with his students. He wouldn’t just give you the answer, he expected you to try and calculate to figure it out, with some guidance. As computers evolved, Jerry was one of the first to have a computer at the school. This led to him being one of the main people to work at getting all the schools networked with this new technology.
He was a loving husband and cared deeply about spending time with his daughter, her husband, and his two grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and other games (were a must at family gatherings), putting together difficult puzzles, reading and cheering on his grandkids when they played sports and watching Minnesota sport teams on TV.
He is survived by his wife, Ann of Montevideo, daughter Melanie (Gary) Gades, of Montevideo, brother, Garfield (Jan) Robertson of Wisconsin, sister Bonnie (John) Rinkenberger of Chokio, grandchildren Mason Gades and Livia Gades as well as nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Herman and Margaret Robertson.
