Gerda Maus, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 90. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Rev. Robert Friedrich will officiate and interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held Monday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7:00 PM and a prayer service at 5:00 PM. Gerda (Johnson) Maus was born May 12, 1917 in Grace Township, Chippewa County, MN the daughter of Olaf and Regina (Swenson) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church and attended rural schools. Gerda was united in marriage with Edward Maus October 23, 1935 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Havelock. They moved to Tracy, MN in 1942 where Ed owned the John Deere Implement. They moved to Rosewood Township in 1948 where they lived, farmed and raised their family. She moved in to Montevideo in 1993 to live with her son Neil and his family. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Gerda enjoyed writing letters to family and friends. She also enjoyed music and played organ, piano, accordion and guitar. She liked reading, baking, cooking, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Gerda especially enjoyed the trip she made to Norway with her sisters Selma and Delores in June of 1988. She is survived by three children: Shirley (and Lamar) Joyce of Champlin, MN, Sharron Grashius of Smyrna, GA, and Neil (and Sandra) Maus of Montevideo; eight grandchildren: Robert (and Diana) Grashius, Garrett Grashius, Michelle Joyce, Shawn Joyce, Israel (and Tesa) Maus, Angela (and Michael) Arndt, Joshua (and Beth) Maus, and Adam (and Betsy) Maus; six great-grandchildren: Katherine and Julia Grashius, Easton Grashius, Amelia and Parker Anderson, and Matthew Arndt; one brother, Raymond (and Evie) Johnson of Brooklyn Park, MN; two sisters: Selma (and Bud) Nelson of Pine Springs, MN and Delores (and Wayne) Corbett of Albuquerque, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edward in 1984; one grandson, Matthew Neil Maus; seven brothers: George, Morris, Marvin, Frank, Rudolph, Ingvald, and Oscar Johnson; and one sister, Mildred Houghton.
