Gilbert Christiansen, of Maynard, died on Tuesday October 18, 1994 at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 81. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday October 21 at 1:30 P.M. at the Maynard Lutheran Church in Maynard with Rev. Ronald Duty officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and one hour prior to services in the church.
Gilbert Christiansen was born on May 5, 1913 in Havelock Township of Chippewa Co., Minnesota. He grew up in the Maynard area, was baptized and confirmed at Maynard Lutheran Church, and attended rural and Maynard Schools. He was united in marriage to Agnes Broers on January 15, 1936 at the Immanuel Lutheran Parsonage in Clara City,Mn. He served in the US Army during WWII in the European Theater of operations. He was employed at the West Central Gas Station and the Maynard Farmers Elevator for several years before entering farming. He farmed in Havelock Township for 30 years before retiring in the late 1970's and moving into Maynard. He was a member of Maynard Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #252 of Maynard.
He is survived by his wife - Agnes; by brothers - Royal Carter and his wife Mary of Lake Tomahawk, Wi. and Wallace Carter and his wife Marge of Los Angeles, Ca.; as well as by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son - Dennis Christiansen; by his mother - Myrtle Christiansen Carter; and by a brother - Marvin Carter.
