Gladys Anderson

Gladys C. Anderson, of Montevideo, died Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 92.

Memorial Services will be conducted on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at Hope Reformed Church in Montevideo with Pastor John Runyan and Pastor Louis Ford officiating.   Interment will be in the Graham United Methodist Cemetery near Rice, MN.

Gladys Constance (Scheel) Anderson was born on July 5, 1923 in Rice, MN to John and Lillian (Foss) Scheel. She grew up with two brothers and a sister on a farm in rural Rice.  In 1941 she graduated from Tech High School in St. Cloud, MN.  Following high school she did maid work in Minneapolis.  On December 2, 1943, she was united in marriage to Orvis F. Anderson at the Graham Evangelical Church in rural Rice, MN. They were the first couple to be married in the new church after the previous one had burned.  Orvis was drafted into the Army during World War II and while he was gone she lived with her family.  It was during this time that she had her first child.  After the war, they farmed for a time before moving into Sauk Rapids, MN.  When Orvis went to college, Gladys worked in a retail store.  After his graduation from college, she became a homemaker and had three additional children.  They lived for ten years in Canby, MN before moving to Montevideo in 1966.  During her younger years she was a Girl Scout leader, was active with school activities with her children and was active in her church.  She loved children and when hers were grown she cared for other small children for many years and became a special grandma to them.  She was especially proud to be a grandma to her own nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.  She was an excellent cook and baker, liked to sew and do other handwork.   She lived the past several years at Brookside Manor and  as her health continued to decline, she spent a short time in the Luther Haven Nursing Home.

She is survived by four children: Darrell “Andy” and his wife Marian of Montevideo; Connie Nuebel and her husband Ron of Northfield, MN;  Vern Anderson and his wife Pam of Dawson, MN and Steve Anderson and his wife Robin of West Branch, IA; nine grandchildren: Angie (Matt) Schrader. Shawn Nuebel, Eric (and Kathy) Nuebel; Troy (and Lori) Nuebel, Tonya Nuebel; Matt (and Kelly) Anderson, Vince Anderson and Noah Anderson and Naomi Anderson; sixteen great grandchildren; a brother, Alvin (Donna) Scheel of Rice, MN; a sister, Arlys Larson of Sauk Rapids, MN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Orvis in 2006; a brother, Lavern Scheel and his wife Lois, and by a brother-in-law, Ed Larson.
