Funeral service was at 1:30 PM, Monday, April 13, at the Johnson Memorial Home Chapel with Pastors Bruce Rodrick and Kendall Stelter officiating; nephew, Jon Bloom read the poem, "For Those I Love and For Those Who Love Me...; accompanist, Joyce Pearson accompanied Dean Pearson singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Blest Be The Tie That Binds" and the hymns "Amazing Grace" and "Softly and Tenderly." All the care-givers at the Johnson Memorial Home were honorary casketbearers and active casketbearers were Jon Bloom, Stuart Bloom, Jeffrey Ellefson, Joshua Ellefson, Roger A. Ellefson and Suzy Schomburg. Burial was in the Dawson Covenant Church Cemetery. Gladys Cora Bloom was born September 6, 1914, in Riverside Township, rural Dawson to Emil S. and Olava (Haugesag) Bloom. She was baptized and confirmed at the Dawson Covenant Church in rural Dawson and graduated from Dawson High School. She was united in marriage to Morrill Winge and Pat, Anne, Michael, Cindy and Mark were born to this union. After Morrill died, she later married Vernon Belton in California. Gladys enjoyed housekeeping and while Morrill managed the American Legion in Dawson, she did the cooking on the weekends. They moved to California where she was a banquet hostess at the Miramar Hotel in Santa Barbara. She was a very talented mom who liked to sew clothes for her girls, braid wool rugs, paint in water-color and paint ceramics, play piano, Bridge and golf, dance, and re-upholster her furniture and redecorate her home. She also enjoyed tent camping on the beaches of California. After moving back to Dawson, Gladys lived in Riverside Manor Apartments and on November 2, 2007, she moved from Prairie Meadows Assisted Living to the Johnson Memorial Home, where she died on Thursday evening, April 9, 2009, at the age of 94 years, 7 months and 3 days. She is survived by her children: Pat (Elliott) Dahl of Santa Barbara, CA, Anne (Roger) Ellefson of Dawson, Michael (Patsy) Winge of Santa Barbara, CA, and Cindy Gibbons of Omaha, NE; 8 grandchildren: Deborah, Steve, Julie, Michelle, Susan, Diane, Adam and Molly; 5 great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Jessie, Caleb, Maliah and Emma; other family and many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Morrill Winge and Vern Belton; son, Mark Winge; and siblings: Elmer Bloom and Ovila Schomburg.
