Gladys Mathilda Lange was born on June 9, 1918 in Woods Township of Chippewa Co., MN to Otto and Thyra (Asping) Johnson.  She was baptized on August 11, 1918 and confirmed on June 5, 1932 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Louriston Twp. of Chippewa Co., MN.  She attended District #42 schools with many years of perfect attendance.  On December 23, 1950 she was united in marriage to Earl Lange in Albert Lea, MN.  She made her home in Montevideo until March of 2002 when she entered the Clara City care Center.  Gladys did various jobs like taking care of new mothers and working at Woolworths and Gundies Café in Montevideo, and she worked as a cook at Sibley and Ramsey Elementary Schools before retiring in 1981. She was a long time member of Salem Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School and Bible School and was a member of the ALCW and various circles.  She belonged to a neighborhood sewing club and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.  She was always ready to lend a helping hand.  She enjoyed her flowers and vegetable garden and canned many, many jars of vegetables and sauces.  Although she didn’t have any children, she really enjoyed children from the elementary schools where she worked and all her nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.  Small children would always take a liking to her right away, probably because of her great smile and soft voice.  She will certainly be missed by all.

She is survived by her sister, Violet Holtkamp of Kerkhoven, MN a sister-in-law, Adeline Johnson of Anoka, MN as well as by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl in 2001; five sisters: Florence Gaasterland; Hilda Gregorson; Irene Toutges; Delores Johnson and Opal Johnson and by six brothers: Delbert, Elmer, Ernest, Wallace, Walter and Clarence Johnson as well as by four nephews.
