Gladys Zempel

Gladys Zempel, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 89. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 5 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Gladys (Goulson) Zempel was born on February 20, 1922 in Mandt Township of Chippewa Co., MN to Theodore Gustav and Caroline (Myhre) Goulson. She was baptized on March 12, 1922 and confirmed on August 23, 1936 at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. She attended rural school in District 31. On November 19, 1945 she was united in marriage to Clarence Zempel at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. Gladys was a lifelong resident of the Montevideo area and long-time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. She worked for several local and area businesses during her working years, most recently at Parker-Hannifin in Granite Falls. She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, doing needlework and playing cards. She especially dedicated her life to her family and her faith. She is survived by a son, Delaine (and Cheryl) Zempel of St. Peter, MN; two grandsons: Matthew (and Kristina) Zempel of Starbuck, MN and Bryan (and Katie) Raddatz of Dresser, WI; three great grandchildren: Misti Zempel, Alex Raddatz and Bryanna Raddatz; a brother, Helge Goulson of St. Cloud, MN,as well as by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clarence in 1988; two brothers, Bernt and Melvin Goulson and by three sisters: Helen Iverson, Emma Zempel and Pearl Albin.
