Glenn Dunham

April 1, 1924 — February 22, 2012

Glenn Dunham, of Minneapolis, formerly of Dawson died on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the N.C. Little Hospice in Edina, MN, at the age of 87
Funeral service was held Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating; a personal eulogy was given by his son, James; Chris Lehne accompanied the congregation in singing “Amazing Grace”, “Here I Am, Lord”, and “Lift High The Cross” and soloist, Andrea Andert singing “Just As I Am”.  Scripture lessons were: Psalm 27:1-4, 1 Corinthians 2:9, and Matthew 10:26-31, 11:28-30.  Honorary casketbearers were all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and the active casketbearers were Jacob Dunham, Michael Dunham, Jason Andert, Jonathan Andert,  Justin Andert, and David Dunham.  Interment was in the Dawson Cemetery.
Visitation was at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home Saturday from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7PM.

Glenn N. Dunham was born on April 1, 1924, in Miller, South Dakota, to Glenn H. and Bertha (Borgedalen) Dunham.  He attended Dawson High School and graduated after only three years.  He achieved many certifications utilizing his mechanical and problem solving skills.  Glenn over came a life long hearing disability.
On December 10, 1944, Glenn was united in marriage to Sylvia Nyberg.  Six children were born to this union: Larry, Gerald, Diane, Bruce, Glenn and James.
Glenn and Sylvia celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1994.  In the 50 years of their marriage, they resided in the Dawson, Montevideo, Waterloo, IA, and the Twin Cities areas.
He worked on the family farm for many years.  His career included the tire industry as well as boiler and maintenance engineering.  Ultimately, he established a successful heating and air conditioning business in the Twin Cities.
In retirement, Glenn continued to serve his wife, family, church and community in many ways.  He was elected mayor of Dawson and served a full term at 80 years old.   He was on various committees at Grace Lutheran church and especially enjoyed his men’s bible study.  He took great pride in mentoring his children and grandchildren.
Glenn died on Wednesday afternoon, February 22, 2012, at N.C. Little Hospice in Edina, MN, at the age of 87.
Glenn is survived by his children: Larry (Ina), Diane (Jeff) Andert, Bruce (Judy), Glenn (Sharon) and James (Vicky); 14 grandchildren:  Judd, Jake and Jo Dunham, Suzette McNally, Jason, Jonathan and Justin Andert, Jacob, Kristy and Michael Dunham, Amanda and David Dunham, Laura and Kelly Dunham; and 5 great-grandchildren: Grand Dunham, Shane and Dustin McNally, Ariana Bell, Keaton Dunham.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia and son, Gerald.
