Glenn Jager, of Dawson, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson at the age of 91.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 11 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7:00 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson and at the church for one hour before the service.
Glenn was born on the family farm in Lake Norden, SD on June 28, 1925 to John Albert and Alice Josephine (Gilbertson) Jager. He graduated from Lake Norden High School in 1943 and continued working on the family farm. In 1949, he moved to Lead, SD to work for a short time in the gold mines. On January 21, 1950 he married the love of his life, Helen Mae Andersen, on her family’s farm in Badger, SD. After several years of managing their own farm and starting their family with their first 3 boys, they moved to Watertown, SD in 1954 where Glenn worked for Swift and Co. They completed their family with 2 more boys in Watertown and moved to Dawson, MN in 1959 after purchasing the Dairy Freeze. Glenn was active in the community and church, served on the City Council, Church Board, and the Credit Union Supervisory Board and worked at Home Gas Co. and Lac qui Parle Coop Oil until he retired in 1987.
Glenn was a devoted father who demonstrated and instilled in his family his core values and beliefs of hard work, honesty, respect and courtesy for others, do your best, be loyal to your friends, do not complain, and honor God. As his family expanded, he became a loving and doting grandfather and great grandfather who touched all of them and made each of them feel cherished. Throughout his life, he enjoyed puzzles, playing cards and playing ball with his sons. He never tired of watching his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren compete in sports. He had a wonderful and mischievous sense of humor that was contagious and demonstrated the joy he found in life and the people surrounding him. He will be sorely missed by all the people whose lives he touched but part of him remains in each of them and will never be forgotten.
He is survived by his wife Helen; son, Gary Jager and wife Andrea of Hudson, WI; son, Galen Jager and wife Paula of Gary, SD; son, Gordon Jager and wife Vicki of Woodbury, MN; son, Garney Jager of Dawson, MN; son, Gene Jager of Dawson, MN; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Unice Jager.
Glenn is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Alice Jager; brother, Albert Odell Jager; sister, Grace Sanderson and brother-in-law Cecil Sanderson; sister, Mae Salonen and brother-in-law Milton Salonen; and daughter-in-law, Nancy (DeGriselles) Jager.
Blessed be his memory.
