Gordon Baker of Montevideo died on Monday, September 3, 2018 at St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 82.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11:00AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Gordon Ben Baker was born on April 14, 1936 to Ben and Florence (Nicholson) Baker in Montevideo. He was baptized on June 20, 1936 and confirmed on June 4, 1950 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He attended school in Montevideo and graduated with the class of 1954. He attended Dunwoody Institute following high school for civil technology. He went to work for Chippewa County first and then for MN Dot and completed his career with the Chippewa County Highway Department as Assistant County Engineer. He married Lois Harris on December 27, 1958 at Cando Lutheran Church in Cando, ND. They made their home in Montevideo and raised 4 children.
Gordy served in the Minnesota Army National Guard in the late 50's and early 60's. He was a faithful life long member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Gordy enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and gardening throughout his life. He was a “people person” and would always have time to visit with family and friends. He will be remembered by all as the most caring and generous person ever.
Gordy is survived by his wife, Lois; children: Anne (Russ) Abercrombie of Plano, TX, Harris (Patricia) Baker of Maplewood, MN, David (Sherry Hropko) of White Bear Lake, MN, and Valerie (Kevin) Cooksey of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren: Benjamin, Hannah, Emily, Rachel, Jacob, Kaycee, Cody, and Megan; foster son, Dale (Jeanette) Larson of Crookston, MN and their children: Kristi, Stacie, Stephen, and Lisa and grandchildren, as well as many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Florence, relatives and many friends.
