Gordon Erickson, formerly of Montevideo, died on Friday, May 10, 2002 in Dallas Center, IA at the age of 83. Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at 1:00 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Thomas Hanson officiating.
Gordon Lawrence Erickson was born in Montevideo on June 17, 1918 to Lawrence and Hattie (Sprangel) Erickson. He was raised on a farm 5 miles east of Montevideo until joining the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1941 and served until the war was over. He returned from the war and was united in marriage to Marquerite Anderson on November 18, 1945 in Canby, MN. They moved to Clementson, MN in 1948 where they farmed and raised their 6 children. He moved to Dallas Center, IA in 1964 and worked as an over the road truck driver until retiring in 1981. They lived in Baudette, MN and Montevideo, MN before returning to Dallas Center in 1996. He was a member of the Retired Teamsters and of Saint Peters Lutheran Church in Grimes, IA.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite; two sons: Steven Erickson of Dallas Center, IA and Reed Erickson and his wife Kate of Dallas Center, IA; four daughters: Kathleen Nash and her husband Kevin of Pahrump, NV, Wendy Collins and her husband Larry of Dallas Center, IA, Krystal Gearhart of Willow Springs, MO, and Lee Glaser and her husband Joe of Lincoln, NE; 13 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Glaser; six brothers: Lyndon, Everett, Floyd, Alton, Wayne and Shirley Erickson; and two sisters: Cora Mannion, Laura McFarling.
