Grace Borstad died early Monday morning, May 10, 2010, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson at the age of 72. Funeral service will be on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter, rural Montevideo with Pastor Lori Wold officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, May 14, from 5-7 PM, with a closing prayer service at 7 PM at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Grace Elaine Borstad was born on September 8, 1937, to George and Della (Mertz) Ausen at Watertown, SD, and was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. In 1941, the Ausen family moved to Dawson. Grace attended District 102 Country School and graduated from Dawson High School in 1955. On November 6, 1955, she was united in marriage to Roger J. Borstad and they lived on the Borstad family farm in Baxter Township. She was a devoted farm wife who loved to be in the kitchen trying new recipes, making blood sausage, "klub," and perfectly-shaped rosettes for special occasions. She treasured time spent with the grandchildren and attending their many concerts, sports and musical plays. Grace was an angel to all-always willing to do anything she was asked, even remembering birthdays of family, friends, and great-nieces and -nephews. She was very active in church, ladies' aide, WELCA, and teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Quilting with the Baxter ladies provided a wonderful opportunity for fellowship. Everyone knew Grace. She loved to begin conversations, even with strangers, and always was ready with a funny joke to make people laugh-whether it was an Ole and Lena story or just a one-liner. She is survived by her husband, Roger Borstad of Dawson; 3 children: Mike Borstad and special friend, Joyce Dilorenzo of Sun Lakes, AZ, Larry (Karen) Borstad of Dawson and Kim (Tom) Schneider of Sauk Centre; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter: Stacy (Nick) Girard and daughter, Callie of Granite Falls, Sean Schneider and Karla Schneider of Sauk Centre, and Amber Borstad and Ryan Borstad of Dawson; sister, Beverly (Roger) Stenson of Bloomington and brother, Jerry Ausen, Sr. of Hastings; several nieces and nephews, other family and many friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, George on May 31, 1995, and Della on November 17, 2000; and sister-in-law, Donna Ausen on May 6, 2010. Blessed be her memory.
