Grace Evelyn (Shimp) Christianson

Grace Christianson, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, January 22, 2002 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 93.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 25, 2002 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.  The family will be present from 5-8:00 P.M. and with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.

Grace Evelyn Mathilda (Shimp) Christianson was born on May 21, 1908 in Naperville, IL to Jesse and Elizabeth (Baletrode) Shimp.  The family moved to Montevideo, MN in 1913, where she was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church and attended rural schools.  On October 1, 1933 she was united in marriage to Oscar Christianson at the Our Savior's Lutheran Parsonage.  She was a lifelong member of Our Savior's and was active in Rhoda circle and WELCA.  She was a member of a birthday club and the Sons of Norway.  Her interests included crocheting, traveling and being with her family and friends.  She also enjoyed reading books, dancing, and playing cards with friends.

She is survived by a daughter, Marlyn Fokken and her husband Carl of Montevideo; five grandchildren: Jonay Gilbertson and her husband George of Bloomington, MN, Kim Johnson and her husband Dwight of Northwood, ND, Carla Petersen and her husband Todd of Glencoe, MN, Leon Fokken and his wife Melissa of Montevideo, MN, and Kris Bach and her husband Todd of Dawson, MN; six great-grandchildren: Trisha and Tonya Olson, Lacey and Kasjen Petersen,  Kyra Fokken and Dalton Bach; and one step-great-grandchild, Tiffany Johnson .

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Oscar; a grandson, Byron Fokken; a granddaughter, Marilyn Fokken in infancy; four brothers: Chuck and Sherman Shimp and Jerald and Raymond Shimp in infancy; and two sisters: Gladys Olson Hanson and Jessie Shimp in infancy.
