Memorial service was at 1:00 PM, Thursday, July 23, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Lori Wold officiating; personal reflections of Grandma were given by grandsons, Timothy and Terry Lysholm; vocalist, Deb Breberg sang "His Eye Is On The Sparrow"; and organist, Barry Lund accompanied the singing of "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee." The grandchildren were urn bearers and interment was in Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Grace Joann Lysholm was born on February 28, 1920, to Henry and Lena (Oltmann) Deling in Rockwell City, Iowa, the fourth of five children. The family broke up when she was 5 years old, and she was raised by her grandparents in southern MN. She attended country school through the 8th grade. Grace and Joseph Lysholm were married on Friday, the 13th of January, 1940. To this union, James and Ronald were born. When they lived in the Minneapolis area for two years, she worked at Tonka Toys and a furniture store. After moving back to Dawson, her occupations included housewife, mother, farm wife, egg candler at Swifts in Montevideo and Lende's Hatchery in Dawson. She also was a cook for 25 years at the VFW Club in Dawson and worked in the school kitchen for 2 years. She loved to dance, bowl, quilt, sing, listen to music, crochet, play bingo and cards, and hunt pheasants. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Senior Citizens (VP) and Grace Lutheran Church, and volunteered for the Senior Federation, nursing home, Meals on Wheels, and gave rides to church, shopping and doctors' appointments. For many years she lived at Pleasant View Apartments in Dawson and on May 30, 2006, she entered the Johnson Memorial Home, where she died on Sunday morning, July 19, 2009, at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 21 days. She is survived by her two sons: James (Alice) Lysholm of Omaha, Nebraska and Ronald (Betty) Lysholm of Bloomington, MN; 6 grandchildren: Terry (Deanna) Lysholm, Tim (Lucinda) Lysholm, Tammy (Steve) Simon, Shelly (Steve) Haggart, Melanie (John) Morgan and Melissa (Jerome) Cox; 9 great-grandchildren: Stephanie, Matthew, Stan, Robert (Alice), Andrew, Tiffany, Spencer, Jaden and Dakota; 1 great-great grandson, Ethan James Lysholm; one brother, Herman (Earline) Deling of Ceylon, MN; sister-in-law, Ruth Deling of Iowa; other family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Joe on November 21, 1977; and siblings: Ann Gjerstad, Joann Bowman and Ray Deling.
