Hans Milton Strand

Montevideo

Hans Strand, of Montevideo, died on Friday, February 13, 1998 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 84.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, February 17, 1998 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Warren Broughton officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunset memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6:00 - 7:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Hans Milton Lloyd Strand was born on September 1, 1913 in Milan, MN to Osmund and Annie (Sandbo) Strand.  He grew up in the Milan area and confirmed his baptism at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in 1927.  He attended Milan Public Schools and graduated from Milan High School in 1931.  He farmed in the Milan area for several years before moving to Montevideo in 1945. On April 7, 1946 he was united in marriage to Gladys Mikkelson in Canby, MN.  They operated  the Strand Fairway Store in Montevideo.  In 1954 he was elected Chippewa Co. Sheriff, a position he held until retiring in 1978.  He has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home since April of 1996.  He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, had served on its Board of Trustees and taught Sunday School, was a member of the Lions Club, Sons of Norway and was President of the State Sheriffs Association in 1969 - 1970. He was a Boy Scout leader for over 20 years and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife - Gladys; by sons - Paul Strand and his wife Becky of Merrill, WI: and Philip Strand and his wife Sue of DePere, WI; a daughter - Patricia Nikolaisen and her husband Jerry of Clarkfield, MN; 8 grandchildren; a brother - Ray Strand and his wife Adeline of Milan, MN; a sister - Florence Gilbertson of Milan, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother - D . J. (Bud) Strand, and sisters - Mary Cain and Janet Reed.
