Harlan Farmen, of Dawson, MN, died Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, MN at the age of 90.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church of Rural Dawson, MN. Rev. Bruce Bringle will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 13, 2015 from 5-7 P.M. at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.
Harlan Melvin Farmen was born November 20, 1924 in Dawson, MN to Melvin J. and Guida (Ritland) Farmen. He was baptized in 1924 and confirmed in 1938 at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church. In 1942, he graduated from Dawson High School. He served in the Army from October of 1945 to December of 1946. On December 27, 1945, he was united in marriage to Doryce Moen at Hegre Lutheran Church. He farmed and then served as Deputy County Auditor for 18 years. In 1972, he started working for Dawson Mills and retired in the late 1980's from Land O’ Lakes. They moved into Dawson in 1985. He was active on the church council and enjoyed ushering. In his spare time he liked being with family, coffee with friends, woodworking, golfing, camping and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Doryce; two sons: Richard (Deb) Farmen and Steven Farmen both of Dawson; four grandchildren: Tanya (George) Thesing, Kayla (Matt) Viessman and Jacob Farmen all of Dawson and Shawn Farmen of North Platte NE; five great-grandchildren: Rylin, Ragan, Tyler, Gannon, and Grady; and extended family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; four infant children: Janet Marie, Beverly Ann, Mary Helen, and Marlin Ordell; a sister, Glenice Johnson and infant brother, Merlin Farmen.
