Harlan Haakenson, of Dawson, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at his home in rural Dawson under hospice care at the age of 74. Memorial service was at 2:00 PM, Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating; organist, Chris Lehne accompanied the congregation in singing "Beautiful Savior" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and vocalist, Jon Wager in singing "Peace In the Valley and "How Great Thou Art;" urn bearers were Nic Haakenson, Brandon Lundy, and Dustin Lundy and honorary urn bearers were: Sarah Haakenson, Matt Haakenson, Emily Freeman, Kayla Smith, Devin Haakenson, Amber Haakenson, Courtney Lundy, and Lexis Haakenson. Interment was in Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was at the church for 1 hour before the services on Saturday. Harlan LeRoy Haakenson was born February 7, 1936, at Dawson, MN, the son of Eddie and Belma (Jordahl) Haakenson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson and attended Country School in District #14 and Dawson High School. Harlan served two years as a member of the MN Army National Guard. He was united in marriage with Elaine Moseng on June 14, 1958, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter. They made their home at Dawson where he worked as an auto mechanic, repairing cars, snowmobiles, lawn mowers, and numerous appliances. He could fix and repair just about anything. He also enjoyed working around his farm, having a garden, and spending time with his kids, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. He was especially fond of his dog, Tucker. Harlan died Tuesday afternoon, September 14, 2010, under hospice care at his home in rural Dawson at the age of 74. Harlan is survived by his wife, Elaine; three children: Randy Haakenson of Dawson, Kevin (Carol) Haakenson of Pennock, and Becky Lundy of Dawson; ten grandchildren: Nic (and friend Jen) Haakenson, Sarah Haakenson, Matt Haakenson, Devin Haakenson, Amber Haakenson, Emily (David) Freeman, Brandon Lundy, Dustin Lundy, Courtney Lundy, and Kayla (Greg) Smith; one great-granddaughter, Lexis LeeAnn Haakenson; mother-in-law, Palma Moseng at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson; one brother, Allen (Carol) Haakenson of Idaho; and three sisters: Jane (Roger) Oman of Dawson, Delores (Donovan) Peterson of Dawson and Arlene Greene of Pensacola, FL. Preceding him in death were his parents; father-in-law, Oscar Moseng; and brother-in-law, Bob Greene. We love and miss you, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa. Blessed be his memory.
