Harlan Jorgenson, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, October 3, 2010 at the Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital at the age of 94. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday October 11, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening with the family present from 3 - 5 P.M. and with a prayer service at 4:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Harlan Clayton Jorgenson was born on March 9, 1916 in Montevideo, MN to Engebret and Elise (Erlandson) Jorgenson. He was baptized in March of 1916 at St. Petri Lutheran Church and confirmed in November of 1929 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter. He attended rural school in District 21 and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1934. On August 24, 1941 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Rottunda at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo. He served in the U S Army from October of 1942 until April of 1946, receiving a battlefield commission and two purple hearts. Following his discharge, he went to work as a livestock buyer for the George A. Hormel Company, working for them until retiring in 1978. They lived in Canby, MN for a few years and spent from 1949 until his retirement in Redwood Falls, MN. While in Redwood Falls he was a member of the City Council for 14 years and President of the Council for 7 years, was President of the Church Council during the building of the new Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, sang in the church choir and was a member of the Lions. Following his retirement from Hormel in 1978, they moved to the Montevideo area, where they built a new home and he was a self-employed wood worker and cabinet maker. A number of years ago he moved into Montevideo and was currently a resident at Copper Glen. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he was a choir member, active in the Lunch Bunch, was an usher and served on the Sr. Advisory Board. He was a board member of the Chippewa Co. Historical Society, was a barber shop chorus member for thirteen years and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American legion and VFW. He enjoyed music, woodworking, discussing politics and news and enjoyed visiting with his friends. He is survived by his wife Dorothy; nine children: Barbara (and Joe) Lewis of Tucson, AZ; JoAnn (and Bill) Griffiths of Melbourne, Australia; Donald Jorgenson of Phoenix, AZ; Rev. Scott (and Cindy) Jorgenson of Las Cruces, NM; Rebecca (and Jerry) Sundquist of Deephaven, MN; Paul (and Deb) Jorgenson of Apple Valley, MN; Joel (and Kristie) Jorgenson of Milwaukee, WI; Todd Jorgenson of Plymouth, MN and Jonathan (and Andrea) Jorgenson of Hudson, WI; 23 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers: Robert (Ruth) Jorgenson of Montevideo; Roger (Bernita) Jorgenson of Benson, MN and Herbert (Jean) Jorgenson of Apple Valley, MN; a sister, Harriet (Jake) Diehm of Grand Rapids, MI, as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marita in infancy; three brothers: Rev. J. Obert, Kenneth and Donald Jorgenson and by a sister, Evelyn Winslow.
