Harley Christie, of Montevideo, died on Friday, May 14, 2010 at his home in rural Montevideo at the age of 83. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the services at the church. Harley Calvin Christie was born on February 3, 1927 in Osceola, IA to Jesse and Ethel(Small) Christie. His mother died when he was three and he was raised by Effie Nordby. He grew up in the Maynard area and attended Maynard Public Schools. He served in the US Navy during World War II. On October 20, 1947 he was united in marriage to Catherine Varsnick in Stillwater, MN. He farmed in Sparta Township of Chippewa Co for many years before retiring. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW Post #380, American legion Post # 59 and the Eagles. He liked to Dance, fish, play cards, socialize and especially being with and enjoying his family. He is survived by his wife Catherine; three sons: Gary (and Barbara) Christie of Ottertail, MN; Michael (and Marti) Christie of Billings, MT and Daniel Christie of Hutchinson, MN; twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; a brother, Harold Christie of San Francisco, CA; a sisters: Lorraine Stephens of Portland, OR; Sylvia Christie and Darla Christie. He was preceded in death by his parents, by Effie Nordby; a sister, Marie Thompson and by a half-brother, Jim Christie.
