Harley Duane Schmieg, of Montevideo, died on November 23, 2014 at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 36.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Saturday December 6th at 10:00 at Community Bible Church in Montevideo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on December 6th , 2014 at Community Bible Church in Montevideo, MN. Pastor Barry Brace will officiate the service.
Harley Duane Schmieg was born in St. Paul, MN on October 4, 1978 to Duane Schmieg and Nancy Schmieg. He was dedicated and baptized into the Christian Faith. While growing up, he enjoyed playing sports including: hockey, baseball, soccer, swimming and football. He also was involved in the Royal Rangers and the Boy Scouts. He graduated from Columbia Heights High School. Harley later obtained his CDL for driving truck. Harley worked as a truck driver for a time and then obtained his license to operate heavy machinery, which he then used to work in the construction industry. Family and employment led him to live in Minnesota, South Dakota and Florida.
Harley enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. Family was very important to Harley. He loved being with his family and friends, whether at a family celebration or just hanging out. He was also active in the Men’s Bible Study group at Community Bible Church in Montevideo.
Harley is survived by his fiancee, Monica Lame; three children: Haley, Haven and Gage all of Montevideo; his mother, Nancy Shaleen Schmieg Gjerdahl of Montevideo; his father, Duane Schmieg of St. Paul, MN; a sister, Sheria Wells of Nazareth, PA; and four brothers: Travis Gjerdahl, Tanner Gjerdahl, Tyler Gjerdahl and Daniel Gjerdahl all of Montevideo.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Vernon and Deloris Shaleen and Myrtle and Duane Schmieg.
