Harold Henstein, of Montevideo, died on Monday, July 18, 2005 at his home at the age of 78.
Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, July 21, 2005 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald McKee officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening and with the family present from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Harold Mark Henstein was born on December 25, 1926 in Watson, MN to Olaf and Anna (Milchiorson Pettersen) Henstein. He was baptized and confirmed at Watson Lutheran Church and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1944. He served in the US Navy from 1944 - 1946, serving in the Phillippines. Following his discharge, he attended Koyne Electric Trade School in Chicago. On June 27, 1948 he was united in marriage to Geraldine Sundem, a marriage lasting for 57 years. He worked for Minnesota Valley Light and Power Cooperative for 42 years, starting as a groundsman, becoming a lineman and finally finishing as the Director of Member Services. He was a long-time member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and as a Deacon. He served on the Montevideo City Council, the Luther Haven Board, was a Mason and a Royal Arch Mason, was a member of the VFW and was a member of the clean plate club. He enjoyed traveling - especially cruises and most of all his two trips to Norway to visit his parent’s homeland, Henstein Islands and many relatives.
He is survived by his wife, Geri; six children: Mark Henstein of Forest Lake, MN, Scott Henstein of St. Louis Park, MN, Leslie Henstein and his wife Heidi of Eden Prairie, MN, Ben Henstein and his wife Sandy of Frankfort, IL, Sue Henstein of Clearwater, MN and Will Henstein and his wife Tasha of Gilbert, AZ; twelve grandchildren: Collee, Bjorn, Stephanie, Paul, Andrew, Olivia, Rebecca, Caleb, Jacob and Zachary Henstein; and Aaron and Evan McLaughlin; two brothers: Paul Henstein and his wife Mary of Marshalltown, IA, and John Henstein and his wife Kathy of Oregon City, OR; three sisters: Agnes Oie and her husband Arnie of Glencoe, MN; Helen Coffey and her husband John of Kalamath Falls, OR and Georgine Nelson of Vista, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Joshua Henstein; a brother, Haakon Henstein and his wife Ethel; and one brother-in law, Harvey Nelson.
