Two days after deer hunting this past November, Harris suffered a stroke and died peacefully on January 20, 2010, at the Gables of Boutwells Landing Care Center in Stillwater, MN, at the age of 84 years, 1 month and 27 days, with family members at his side. Funeral service was held on Saturday, January 23, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastors Kendall Stelter and Lindsay Stolen officiating; scriptures included Psalm 121 and John 14:1-7; organist/pianist, Chris Lehne played God Bless America as a piano solo and accompanied the singing of Rock of Ages, Shine, Jesus, Shine and On Eagle's Wings. Scott, Ryan, Brandon, Cassandra, Rachel and Aric were casketbearers. Internment will be later this year in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Harris Ingram Lee was born at the family home in Baxter Township on November 23, 1925, to Helmer and Judith (Bothun) Lee. He was confirmed at Trinity Church and attended school in rural Boyd while working on neighboring farms. Harris served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II as a sergeant assigned to the Pacific Theatre, ultimately participating in the occupation of Japan. On October 23, 1949, Harris was united in marriage to Dorothy Fousek at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. To this union, five children were born. They resided in Dawson/rural Dawson until 1955, at which time they moved to their current home in Dawson. Harris worked at the Farmers Coop Elevator and in later years for the City of Dawson. He enjoyed giving back to the community as shown through his service with the Dawson Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years. He also was an active member of the American Legion, a life member of the VFW (50 years), and related Cooties Fraternal organization dedicated to charitable and veteran affairs. He acted as Drill Sergeant for the VFW Marching Drill Team (state champs numerous times). He loved dancing waltzes and polkas with Dorothy and their travels together. One of his passions was hunting, especially deer and pheasants. His sons and grandsons enjoyed many hunting adventures with him and admired his shooting skills. Other favorite activities included his weekly bowling league, fishing, camping and later spending time with Dorothy and the family at their lake cabin. He is survived by four of his children: Diane (Richard) Falk of Moorhead, Raymond (Michele) of Hudson, WI, Roger (Kimberly) of Chanhassen, and James of Los Angeles, CA; son-in-law, Kevin (Therese) Bergeson of Dawson; 12 grandchildren: Scott (Tabitha) Macziewski, Sara (Jared) Koch, Stacy (Jeff) Mynatt, Aric Falk, Jayann (Brett) Andrews, Ryan (Malea) Bergeson, Brandon Lee, Rachel (David) Dettmann, Cassandra (Bob) Dauwalter, Cayla, Cari and Carson Lee; 6 great-grandchildren: Brayden, Kylie Mae and Makenna Koch, Brady and Blake Andrews, and Cristian Bergeson; siblings: Adeline Olson (husband, Roy Smetak) of Forada, MN, and Donald (Mavis) Lee of Big Lake, MN; brothers and sisters-in-law and the many nieces and nephews that held special places in his heart. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Dorothy, on January 4, 1999; and daughter, Marilyn Bergeson, on November 10, 2005. Harris will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, and his ability to quickly make friends wherever he went. He touched more lives than we will ever know and he will be dearly missed.
