Harry Lien, Dawson, died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Clarkfield Care Center in Clarkfield, MN at the age of 76.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 at 1:30 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson, MN with Rev. Kendall Stelter officiating. Burial will be in the Dawson Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harry Lien was born in Lake Shore Township, Louisburg, Lac qui Parle County to Obert and Gudrun (Holm) Lien on March 9, 1941. He was baptized April 6, 1941 at Minnesota Valley in rural Louisburg. He attended school in Appleton. Harry lived most of his life in the Dawson area. He had a tree cutting service and also hauled iron. He married Colleen Maxwell on September 21, 1963 at the Mission Covenant Church in rural Dawson. They had seven children together.
Harry was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson where he served as head usher for funerals for a period of time. Harry was a long-time member of AA and was very proud of his sobriety of 14 plus years. Harry earned his nick name 'Eviel Lien' in 1975 when he tried jumping the Lac Qui Parle River on a riding lawn mower. All proceeds went to the local Boy and Girl Scout troops. Harry also enjoyed listening to county music, especially Johnny Cash. He played pool, cards and checkers. He also spent time visiting with “The Dumpling Gang”. Family fondly remembers that Harry gave all his grandchildren special nicknames.
Harry is survived by his children: Shannon (Jeff) Blank, Dawson, David (Krystal) Lien, Dawson, Danny (Dana) Lien, Dawson, Doug (Carrie) Lien, Mankato, Barb (Thomas) Williams, Marshall, Erin (Glen) Kuehl, Marshall and Connie (Joseph) Karanja, Marshall; grandchildren: Josh (Pete), Haley (Susie Q), Courtney (Annie Oakley), Camron (Charlie Pride), Kayle (Buttercup), Jenna (Watermelon), Hannah (Hannah Tabanna), Abby (Patsy Cline), Faith (Peaches), Davyn (Johnny Cash), Dysan (Hank), James (Conway), John (Stringbeans) and Jaidyn (Kitty Wells); brothers: Iver (Dorla) Lien and Roger (Marlys) Lien; sister, Gladys Labraaten and sisters-in-law, JoAnn Carlson (friend Marcelino Alvarado) and Kristi Carlson; brother-in-law, Harvey Weber; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Colleen in 2010; daughter in infancy, Kelly Jane; 5 sisters and brothers in infancy; sister and brother-in-law, Warren and Selma Schlieman; sister, Corrine Weber; brothers-in-law, Curtis Carlson and Arnie Labraaten; and parents-in-law, Fingal and Clara Carlson.
