Harry Tuininga, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 87.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 21, 2002 at 1:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo with Rev. John Runyan officiating. Interment will be in the Leenthrop Memorial Cemetery near Maynard, MN. Visitation will be prior to services on Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Harry Tuininga was born on February 9, 1915 in Worthington, MN to Henry and Gertrude (Vander Kooi) Tuininga. He grew up in Worthington, MN and Sioux County, IA and attended Christian school in Hull, IA. At the age of 19 he committed his life to serving the Lord Jesus Christ. On July 10, 1941 he was united in marriage to Margaret Rynders in Hull, IA. They farmed near Boyden, IA until 1956, when they moved to the Montevideo, MN area. They farmed near Montevideo until retiring in 1981 and moving to Pelican Rapids, MN. They returned to Montevideo in 1990. For the past two years he has been a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. He was active in the Calvary Baptist Church in Montevideo where he taught Sunday School and was a member of the Christian Men’s Fellowship. He served on the School Board of District #25 for a number of years. Together they served as foster parents for 16 foster children between 1960 and 1980. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three daughters: Beverly Schaller and her husband Gary of Maynard, MN, Lynda Huseby and her husband Paul of Dassel, MN, and Marilyn Lopez and her husband Thomas of St. Paul, MN; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, Gary Johnson of Montevideo, MN; two brothers: Ben Tuininga and his wife Grace of Gilbert, MN and Clarence Tuininga and his wife Frances of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Gertrude Baker of Orange City, IA; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patricia Johnson in 1990; and one sister, Cora Bleyenburg.
