Harvey Carlson, 87, of Montevideo and formerly of Chokio, MN died March 31, 1998 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 6, 1998 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Lois Knutson and Rev. Warren Broughton officiating..  Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and at the church for one hour before services on Monday.

Harvey Almit Carlson was born on December 15, 1910 in Stevens Co., MN to Fred and Lena (Mattson) Carlson.  He attended rural school at District #49 in Stevens Co. He farmed with his father until 1937 when he became the Standard Oil bulk agent for the Chokio, MN area.  He was united in marriage to Florence Danielson on June 17, 1937 at the Reque Lutheran Parsonage in Stevens Co.  In the nine years he was the bulk dealership, he turned in into the highest producing dealership in the Minneapolis Division.  In 1946 he started and operated Carlson’s Mink Farms until 1968.  He sold breeding stock all over the world and his mink pelts constantly sold in the top 2 % of the world’s market prices. They moved to Montevideo in 1968, where he was associated with Carlson’s Stock Farm west of town.  He always said his hobby was work, but they did take yearly winter vacations and in later years wintered in Arizona.  He had been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past 6 years.

He is survived by a son - Gary Carlson and his wife Barbara of Willmar; grandsons - Jay (and Pamela) Carlson in the U.S. Army stationed in Hawaii; and Jon (and Chong Ae) Carlson of Clarksville, TN; a great grandson - Grant Carlson; and a sister - Malinda (and Wally) Hagen of Chokio, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife -  Florence in 1997, brothers - Earl and Glen Carlson and a sister - Frieda Asmus.
