Hazel Irene (Anderson) Halvorson

Hazel Halvorson, 88, of Montevideo died October 23, 1998 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 27, 1998 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.  Rev. Warren Broughton will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Monday afternoon and evening at Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and with the family present from 5-7:00 P.M.

Hazel Irene (Anderson) Halvorson was born May 8, 1910 in Yellow Medicine County, MN the daughter of Hans and Mary (Bothum) Anderson.  She was baptized and confirmed at Camp Release Lutheran Church.  She attended rural school and graduated from Granite Falls High School.  She attended teacher training in Montevideo and taught rural school for several years.  Hazel was united in marriage with Melvin C. Halvorson on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 1932.  They farmed in Chippewa County most of their lives.  They moved to Montevideo in 1985 and she became a resident of Luther Haven in 1995.  She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Homemaker’s Club, and Bible Study Circle.  Among her interests were her family, gardening, cooking, baking, crafts, and knitting.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin of Luther Haven; one son, Gary and his wife Donna of Montevideo, MN; one daughter, Audrey Hovland and her husband Darrell of Benson, MN; one daughter-in-law, Marcia Halvorson of New Ulm, MN; five grandchildren: Curtis (Dawn) Halvorson, Cherie (Jim) Niemeyer, Stacy (Seph) Peterson, Jacob Halvorson, and Jason Hovland; three great-grandchildren: Aleisha and Andrew Niemeyer and Elizabeth Halvorson; one brother, Alvin (Madolin) Anderson of Granite Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Robert; one granddaughter, Cindy Halvorson; five sisters: Olga Mooney, Amanda Olson, Myrtle Anderson, Laila Halvorson, and one in infancy; and one brother, Gordon Anderson.
