Hazel Keifer

Hazel Keifer, of Montevideo, died Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 93. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Rev. Charlie Leonard will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 5-8:00 PM. Hazel Keifer was born on February 11, 1915 in Chippewa County the daughter of John and Emma (Mason) Marholz. She was baptized March 16, 1915 at Clara City Lutheran Church and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Hazel attended school at Maynard. She married Clayton Keifer on July 24, 1933 at Watertown, SD. They made their home in Montevideo. She was a faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church, active in Salem WELCA and belonged to the Dorcas circle for many years. She was an excellent cook and baker, enjoyed gardening, fishing, and family gatherings. The house was a welcome meeting place for everybody. She moved to Luther Haven Nursing Home in June of 2007. She is survived by three sons: Clayton (and Marlys) of Lewiston, ID, Dwaine (and Karen) of Montevideo, MN and Robert (and Kim) of Hugo, MN; one daughter, Sharon (and Dennis) Ellefson of Ceder Rapids, IA; twelve grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren; and eight great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clayton in 1998; a brother, Ole Marholz; four sisters: Ethel Benson, Dorothea Robinson, Margaret Molinder and Delores Robinson.
