Hazel Elvera (Solberg) Lauritsen

Montevideo

Hazel Lauritsen, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, November 11, 1999 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 88.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, November 14, 1999 at 2:00 PM at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Wayne D. Kopitzke officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Saturday from 5-8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM, all at the Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Hazel Elvera (Solberg) Lauritsen was born on November 25, 1910 in Minneapolis, MN to Oscar and Emmy (Sandstrom) Solberg.  She was baptized and confirmed in Minneapolis and attended Bancroft Elementary and Minneapolis High Schools.  On November 3, 1934 she was united in marriage to Fred Lauritsen, Sr. at her family home in rural Montevideo.  She lived in rural Granite Falls for many years before moving to Montevideo in 1990.  She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home since 1995.  She was a long-time member of Salem Lutheran Church and a member of the Dorcas circle and was a member of the Hawk Creek Homemakers.  She enjoyed flowers, baking & cooking, needlework, playing cards & bingo and visiting with her friends and family.

She is survived by sons: Dr. Frederick (Catherine) Lauritsen of Cheney, WA, Dr. Eugene Lauritsen of New Orleans, LA, L.S. "Corky" (Bev) Lauritsen of Maynard, MN and Sheldon (Yolanda) Lauritsen of Dallas, TX; one daughter, Melinda Gort of Montevideo, MN; 12 grandchildren: Robert Gort, Arthur Lauritsen, Scott (Rachel) Gort, Joshua (April) Lauritsen, Ben Lauritsen, Logan Lauritsen, Caleb Lauritsen, Eric Lauritsen, Carl Lauritsen, Brian Lauritsen, Gina Gort, and Felicia (Erwin) Avendano; 3 great-grandchildren: Tyler Gort, Carlos Avendano, and Samantha Stennes; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred in 1975; two children: Gary and Priscilla in their youth; and two brothers: George and Harry Solberg.
