Hazel Margaurite (Streed) Moe, of Montevideo, died on Friday, May 1, 2015 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 97.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Watson. Vicar Linda Estling will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8:00 PM at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo and at the church for one hour before services on Thursday.
Hazel Margaurite (Streed) Moe was born on May 16, 1917 to Edward and Onetta (Stevens) Strid on a farm north of Milan, MN in Edison Township of Swift County. Hazel was the third youngest of eleven children. Before she was married she worked for several area families and once lived in and did housework in the BIG house in Milan that Anton Moe had built and lived with his family, which included her future husband, Walter.
Hazel married Walter William Moe on November 8, 1936. She was a beloved wife and mother to Arlene and Gary. She was an excellent cook and probably among Minnesota’s best lefse makers. She loved flower gardening and had a big vegetable garden too, which meant there was always canning to do. She also was a great seamstress and in later years crocheted numerous afgans for her family. Hazel also worked outside of the home for many years as a part-time waitress in Montevideo at Zenk’s Drugstore, Belle’s Grill, and 20 years at Trailways Restaurant. Hazel was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Watson for many years. She continued to live in the her home of 49 years until May of 2009, when she moved to Parkview Towers. In 2010 she became a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home.
Hazel is survived by her daughter Arlene (Maurice) Freeman of Aitkin, MN and son Gary S. Moe of Charlotte, NC., 5 grandchildren: Andrea (Robert) Welter, Amy ( Jim) Krohn, Gary W., Joshua and Jonathan Moe; 1 stepgrandson, Bill Melvin; 3 great-grandchildren: Jennica and Drew Welter and Alissa Krohn; a brother, Warren Streed and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter on January 20, 1997, and brothers Eric, Fritz, Verner and Albert and sisters Ebba Strid, Helma Reuss, Olga Anderson and Norma Winkelman, and other brothers and sisters in law as well as many nieces and nephews.
