Hedwig Erna (Zierott) Maass

Montevideo

Hedwig Maass, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, December 22, 2001 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 100.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 28, 2001 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Leo Deitemeyer officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Hedwig Erna (Zierott) Maass was born on September 4, 1901 in Prussia, Germany .  She grew up in Prussia and was united in marriage to Paul Maass in 1924 in Mariehwerder, Germany.  They moved to the Unites States shortly after their marriage, becoming naturalized citizens in 1935.  They were long-time residents of Montevideo where he was in the meat and grocery business.  She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past several years.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and ladies aid and bridge clubs.  She enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting afghans, flower gardening and playing cards.

She is survived by two daughters: Vange Christenson and her husband Harlen of Montevideo, MN and Edith Skelly of Villard, MN; five grandchildren: Michael Christenson and his wife Leanne of Valdez, AK, James Christenson and his wife Kathy of Lakeville, MN, Patricia Christenson of Spokane, WA, Mary Lou Christenson of Hayden Lake, ID, and Jon Christenson and his wife Carla of Zimmerman, MN; nine great-grandchildren: Bailey Christenson of Valdez, AK,  Nikki, Jeni and Ryan Christenson of Lakeville, MN, Brendan and Daniel Christenson of Zimmerman, MN, Amy Brock and her husband Michael of Bellingham, WA, and Joshua Hooker of Lewiston, ID and Cassie Hooker of Hayden Lake, ID; as well as by two step-great grandchildren: Kyle and Monica Voss of Zimmerman, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul in 1998; one brother, Walter; two sisters: Frieda and Gretel; two grandsons: Mark and Scott Christenson in infancy; and one son-in-law, Dale Skelly.
