Helen Belsaas

Helen Belsaas, formerly of the Boyd area, died on Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Walker Methodist Nursing Home in Minneapolis at the age of 101. Service and burial arrangements are pending with the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Helen Ruth Belsaas was born on December 20, 1909 in Lac Qui Parle Co., MN to Peter and Jorgina (Rustad) Belsaas. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church in rural Boyd and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1926. Helen took post graduate classes and worked for an attorney in Dawson, MN. In 1942 she moved to Minneapolis and worked at General Mills and attended the University of Minnesota's night school taking accounting. She later worked as an bookkeeper in a physician's office in Minneapolis before retiring. She has lived at the Walker Methodist facilities in Minneapolis for a number of years, most recently at the Walker Methodist Nursing Home. She loved to travel with family and friends and enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing bridge. She is survived by a sister, Edna Anderson of Montevideo, MN; a brother, Leonard Belsaas of New Carlisle, IN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: four brothers: Ingvald, Alfred, Palmer and Richard Belsaas and by six sisters: Christine Brandell; Myrtle Fremo; Anna Bergland; Agnes Mitlyng; Dorothy Foote and Margaret Chamberlain
