Helen Day, of Montevideo died Wednesday, August 22 2018 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 95.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 11:00AM at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeff Fitzkappes officiating. Burial will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation with the family will be held one hour before services on Wednesday at the church.
Helen Melvida Day was born on November 6, 1922 in Providence Township, Lac qui Parle County to Mons and Ruth (Bengtson) Olson. She was confirmed and baptized at Providence Valley Lutheran Church, rural Dawson. She attended country school in the Dawson area. On July 27, 1946 she was united in marriage to Irhn A. Day. They lived Montevideo area for many years. They had 2 children, Betty and Robert. Irhn and Helen moved to Willmar for about 4 years prior to Irhn’s death. Following his death Helen returned to Montevideo.
Helen had a variety of jobs throughout her lifetime. She was very proud that she was a egg candeler at the Swift plant in Montevideo for a number of years. She eventually would become a cook for the Montevideo Schools. Helen enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and embroidery. She also collected dolls. She was a volunteer for Lutheran Haven, Trinity Lutheran Church and the Senior Citizen Center in Montevideo.
Helen is survived by her children: Betty (Ron) Lundquist, Bloomquist, MN and Robert (Bekki) Day, Norwood Young America, MN; grandchildren: Stacy Lundquist, Chad (Sara) Lundquist, Erik Day, Nichole (Nicholas) Mejia; great-grandchildren: Greta Lundquist, Henry Lundquist, Marya’, Joaquin, and Mila Mejia as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers: Lloyd, Edgar, and Clifford Olson; sisters: Ameila Ebel, Della Olson and a sister in infancy.
