Helen Halverson, of Montevideo, died on Monday, January 21, 2002 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 98. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, January 26, 2002 at 1:30 PM at Barum Lutheran Church in Elk Mound, WI with Rev. Hal Schroetter officiating.. Burial will be in the Barum Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and for one prior to services on Saturday at the church.
Helen Morine (Chamberlin) Halverson was born on March 30, 1903 in Eau Claire, WI to Richard and Bessie (Avery) Chamberlin. She grew up in the Eau Claire, WI and Clark County, WY areas. On December 31, 1921 she was united in marriage to Conrad Halverson at the Congregational Church in Eau Claire, WI. Following her marriage, they lived on a farm near Elk Mound WI until she moved to Montevideo, MN in 1991. She was currently a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo. She was a member of the Barum Lutheran Church and had been active in it’s circles. She enjoyed cooking, baking, entertaining, gardening and crocheting.
She is survived by one son, Donald Halverson and his wife Florence of Montevideo, MN; one daughter, Joyce Pederson and her husband Charles of Montevideo, MN; 13 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Halverson of St. Paul, MN and Hazel Chamberlin of WA; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Conrad; one son, Marvin Halverson; one granddaughter, Nancy Halverson; two brothers: Dick and Tom Chamberlin; and one sister, Bessie Modl.
