Helen Louise Grinager was born on February 21, 1936 in Milan, MN to Melvin and Petra Grinager. She was baptized May 10, 1936 in Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan and confirmed on May 8, 1949 at Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson. She started her education in a one-room schoolhouse near Dawson, continued onto Junior High in Dawson then graduated from Boyd High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Don Hutt on June 10, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd, MN. To this union three children were born – Lynn Janel, Douglas Alan and David Lee.
They spent the first months of their marriage in Estelline, SD and then moved to Boyd, MN where they went into partnership farming with her brother, Palmer. In 1974, Helen and Don purchased Hutt Oil. She worked as bookkeeper for their business, Hutt Oil, until her retirement. When she wasn’t completing bookwork for Hutt Oil she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd and active in church circle, Chairperson for Food Shelf, teaching Vacation Bible School as well as Sunday School, PTA, Alter Chairman, served on the board for Title I, Teachers Aide, and Coalition on Aging. She also helped in many facets for the community of Boyd. She was very community oriented. After retirement Helen spent time visiting people in nursing homes, loved to travel (she was especially delighted to have had the opportunity to travel to Norway twice to connect with relatives and experience her heritage) and had a love for beautiful flowers.
Helen’s pride and joy were her three grandchildren, Joseph, Katie and Mason. She loved spectating their school and sporting events. She also loved when they visited her house where she would make malts, play a game of Slap Jack or just visited. Her eyes lit up even more when her great-grandchilden were brought into her life. Cohett, Keller, Hayes, Ashlyn and Karina held a very special place in Helen’s heart. We will miss Grandma Helen standing at her back door waving at any of us driving away until she could no longer see us.
Helen is survived by her son David (Mavis) Hutt of Boyd, grandchildren Joseph (Kirsten) Hutt, Boyd, Katie (Matt) Boettger, Minneota, and Mason (Michelle) Hutt, Boyd, great-grandchildren Cohett, Keller, Hayes, Ashlyn, Karina and Baby Hutt (Mason/Michelle), sisters Ruby (Ed) Pacheco, Eden Prairie, and Alice Beattie, Slayton, nieces and nephews.
