Helen Larson of Marshall, formerly of Dawson, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall at the age of 85.
Funeral services was Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 2:00 PM, at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. with Pastor Kendall Stelter and intern, Pastor Erika Benson officiating; scripture lessons were Psalm 23, II Corinthians 4:16-5:7, Matthew 11:28-30; and organist, Chris Lehne accompanied the singing of How Great Thou Art, On Eagle’s Wings and Amazing Grace. Interment was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Boyd with grandchildren: Brenda Torres, Dustin Hinckley, Darin Hinckley and Tyson Hinckley serving as casketbearers.
Visitation was Friday from 5-7:00 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson and for one hour before the services on Saturday.
Helen Gertrude Larson was born April 9, 1927 in Providence Township, rural Dawson, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Peterson) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed at Garfield Lutheran Church. She grew up in Providence Township and later moved into Dawson where she graduated from Dawson High School in 1945. Helen was united in marriage July 21, 1946 with Oscar B. Larson. To this union two children were born. They made their home in eastern Minnesota before moving to South Dakota where they operated a hotel/cafe in Doland and she also worked as a cook for many years. They moved to Dawson in the late 1980's and she moved to Marshall in 2005. Helen loved sewing, baking, crafting, quilting, and gardening. She was a caregiver to her husband, Oscar for many years after his stroke.
She is survived by her children: Marlin (Dianne) Larson of Olivia and JoAnne (Mark) Hinckley of Marshall; four grandchildren: Brenda (Mark) Torres, Dustin (Jennifer) Hinckley, Darin Hinckley, and Tyson Hinckley; three great-grandchildren: Rebecca, Benjamin, and Jaimeson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Oscar July 27, 1990; and brothers and sisters: Ethel, Arthur, Arvid, Hazel, Walter, Alice, Raymond, Leonard, Donald, and Carol.
